Experiences for presents – New York dessert tour
Last updated: 23.11.23
If you have been following our adventures for a while I’m sure you have no doubt about the fact that we prioritize experiences over things! We spend most of our money on creating amazing memories together instead of buying physical things – We even sold all our furniture and are living a nomadic lifestyle filled with amazing moments.
When my husband, Nicko, turned 30 years old in August he received a Tinggly Fun Together gift box. The perfect gift for someone who loves to travel and doesn’t have a long list of wishes with material things.
We decided to use the box when we visited New York this year (15 days in the end of October and the start of November) on a dessert tour with a local guide in the neighborhood called Hell’s Kitchen. Here you get introduced to some top desserts in New York.
In this travel blog post I share this New York food tour experience with you, information about Tinggly and how you can buy a personalized gift with a collection box for someone you love with a discount!

Experiences for presents – New York dessert tour
This article is divided into 3 parts: The power of memories, Tinggly (with the discount tip) and our personal experience with Tinggly on our dessert tour in New York.
The power of memories:
When choosing experiences over material things you create lasting memories that stay with you for long after the moment has passed. Things often get lost or taken away over time, but we keep our memories as a part of us. For me it’s even better when I create these amazing stories with others.
New experiences can also make us grow as a person and discover a new side we didn’t know about. When traveling and exploring we experience new cultures, perspectives and challenges. All this can help us out of our comfort zones and make room for personal development. Which I love!
These are some of the reasons why my husband and I choose to spend more money on experiences than material things.
Tinggly:
Are you gifting a friend? A couple? Your sister or brother? Mom or dad? With a birthday present or something else? There is a gift collection box for everyone!
“Perfect for Her”, “Superman”, “Fun Together”, “Just Married”, “Happy Birthday”, “Once in a Lifetime” and “Bucketlist” are some of the amazing collections you can purchase.
With a gift collection box the person can choose the experience that fits their dreams and get a life lasting memory. There are both boxes you can do together (like we did with “Fun Together”) and experiences for only one person.
There is something for everyone: The bucket list hunter, the adrenaline junkie, the foodie, the luxury chaser and so on.
The collection boxes include many unforgettable experiences you can choose between world wide. You can find more details about each box here: Gift box collections.
You can also buy one specific experience like a Cappadocia Balloon Ride or a Shark and Wildlife Viewing Adventure in Key West.
When our “traveler friends”, who we have been together with in Luxembourg (where we met), France, Belgium, Netherlands, Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Thailand, got married and didn’t have any wishes besides money for traveling. We decided to give them the collection called “Happily Ever After”. It felt like a more personal gift than money and now we are sure they will get a lovely experience together (the collection box is paid for by ourself and not a part of the collaboration).
Prices and discount:
The prices of the gift box collections vary. The prices are between $99 and $899 (without discount).
I’m happy to share with you, how you can get a discount!
Celebrating Black Friday you can get 30 % off on all Experiences Collections and all Hotel & Stays Collections between Nov 23rd – 28th 2023.
If you didn’t make it in time for Black Friday you can sign up for Tinggly newsletter and get $10 off your first gift order.
Our experience – Hell’s Kitchen dessert tour New York:
New York isn’t only famous for its iconic landmarks and vibrant vibe but also its diverse and delicious culinary scene! This place is a paradise for food lovers and for people with a sweet tooth.
Here you can read about our personal experience on a dessert food tour in New York.
We did the experience called: “Hell’s Kitchen Dessert Tour New York by Like A Local Tours” from the gift collection “Fun Together”. You can also buy the trip directly.
It’s a dessert food tour in the area of New York called Hell’s Kitchen. It’s located on the West Side of Midtown Manhattan.
A local guide explain some facts about the neighborhood while walking around to the different dessert stops, a total of 6 stops with tasty treats. Maybe some of the best dessert places in New York with something for everyone. If you are craving cupcakes, cookies, pies and so on this is the area for you. This food tour provides a great variety of sweets.
If you’re a dessert lover this is the perfect way to explore New York through the different sweet culinary experiences. It’s time to explore some of the best desserts in New York!
This is our first time attending a food tour containing sweet foods instead of one containing more savory food.
This is our experience and opinion for each treat we tried. We have rated all the desserts on a scale from 1-10 (10 = the best).
1. Location: Little Pie Company
At this place we tasted their bestselling signature pie called Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie.
You can’t think about American desserts without thinking of pie. As you can see we both gave this pie a high score – It was so tasty and a great start to the tour!
Points for Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie:
Nicko: 9
Nanna: 8
2. Location: Poseidon Greek Bakery
This family owned place is celebrating 100 years in the same location. We tried their handmade Baklava with layers of phyllo pastry, walnuts and almonds.
I didn’t give this dessert high points. That isn’t because of the specific place, but the fact I found baklava a bit too sweet for my taste with the honey on top of it. I’m sure if you’re looking for one of the best places to try baklava in New York, this is a place you should try.
Points for the handmade Baklava:
Nicko: 6
Nanna: 5
3. Location: Schmackary’s
This place serves delicious cookies with different flavors. We had a Classic Chocolate Chip and a Schmackerdoodle (cinnamon chips, white chocolate and cinnamon sugar chunks) served with milk – A perfect combination.
Especially the Schmackerdoodle cookie was a perfect treat! I love cinnamon and even more when it’s fall and winter, it’s just such a cozy and Christmas related spice for me.
Points for the Classic Chocolate Chip:
Nicko: 7
Nanna: 7
Points for the Schmackerdoodle:
Nicko: 8
Nanna: 8
4. Location: Bird & Branch
A specialty coffee shop where we tried The Nightingale – A latte made with a mix of espresso and earl grey tea.
I’m not a big fan of coffee and earl grey tea and mixing them didn’t save the taste of the beverage for me. It wasn’t the right match for a hot beverage for me.
Points for the Nightingale:
Nicko: 4
Nanna: 1
5. Location: Amy’s Bread
At this bakery we tried their Chocolate Sourdough Twist.
It was good, but for me it wasn’t anything special, a bread with chocolate.
Points for the Chocolate Sourdough Twist:
Nicko: 5
Nanna: 6
6. Location: Huascar & Company Bakeshop
At this place we tried two different cupcakes:
– Nutty Fella: A chocolate fudge cake with nutella filling and nutella buttercream frosting.
– Creme Brulee: A cupcake version of Creme Brulee.
Bonus: They are winners of the tv show called Cupcakes Wars.
It was a bit too sweet. Maybe if this has been one of the first ones we tried the rating of it would have been a bit higher…

Points for the Nutty Fella:

Nanna: 6
Points for the Creme Brulee:
Nicko: 7
Nanna: 7
It was fun to try all the different desserts and learn more about the history of the neighborhood.
As you can see my favorites were the apple pie and the cinnamon cookie! I’m still dreaming about the apple pie, maybe the score I gave was too low – But it was a bit too hot when it was served and you never give the first thing you try 10 if something better comes later 😉
BONUS: Now when we are speaking about delicious desserts in New York. Our Friends who lives in New York recommended two other sweets we tried and it’s definitely worth trying if you love desserts! Here are 2 recommendations we tried on our own:
– A cookie from Levain Bakery (maybe the best cookie I ever had)
– Banana Pudding from Magnolia Bakery (a new favorite dessert for us)
I hope this inspired you to try some tasty sweets in the Big Apple. If these desserts didn’t satisfy your sweet cravings I’m not sure anything will be able to.
Christmas is approaching and if you’re looking for a gift for someone you love, you can find the Fun Together and many more gift boxes here:
