Welcome to the land of fire and ice – Also known as Iceland!
This country offers plenty of outdoor activities and adventures. The weather is raw and harsh sometimes. But if you brave the weather you will get rewarded – Iceland has the most spectacular nature such as volcanoes, glaciers, hot springs, black sand beaches, tons of waterfalls and so much more! The raw nature often makes you feel like driving around on another planet. This destination is perfect for road trips, nature lovers and adventure seekers.
Iceland isn’t like any other county I have visited! It’s unique and raw!
We spent 8 adventurous days road tripping on the Ring Road of Iceland in breathtaking sceneries.
In this post I share cost transparency to make it easier for you to create a travel budget for your trip to Iceland. I have divided the Iceland travel costs into transportation, accommodation, food, experiences and other.

Iceland travel costs
Here is what we spend per person for 8 days in Iceland:
Transportation: 578€ – 72€ per day
This covers rent of camper, diesel to drive 2153 km, parking at different sights and a shuttle bus from our last hotel to the airport.
This is WITHOUT our flight tickets to Iceland from Denmark and return – for those we paid: 247€ per person.
Accommodation: 392€ – 49€ per day
We did a mix of sleeping in the tent on our camper in campsites and some hotel stays.
The average price for our hotel stays was 168€ per night.
The average price for our campsites was 27€ per night.
The rent of the camper is included in transportation.
Food: 224€ – 28€ per day
We did grocery shopping and have been eating simple and cheap food combined with 1-2 restaurant visits per day.
Experiences: 254€ – 32€ per day
This includes entrance fees to a crater, hot spring, bus to flight wreck and Blue Lagoon.
We also did a snowmobile tour and a kayak tour. But both of these tours were collaborations – So we didn’t pay for them and they are therefore not included in the price.
Other: 3€ – less than 1€ per day
This includes paid toilets.
Total: 1451€ – 181€ per day
We also did some work for companies, which means we can remove 596€ from our total expenses.
Iceland is definitely not a cheap destination, but it was all worth it!
