Cost of living in Uzbekistan as a traveler
Last updated: 30.01.24
Welcome to Uzbekistan – A hidden gem in Central Asia!
We spent 2 days in this historic country. We stayed in Tashkent and had a day tour to Samarkand – A UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the ancient Silk Road. A must visit if you go to Uzbekistan.
In this travel blog post I share cost transparency to make it easier for you to create a travel budget for your trip to Uzbekistan. Here you get the breakdown of cost of living in Uzbekistan as a traveler. I have divided our Uzbekistan travel costs into transportation, accommodation, food, experiences and other.
Cost of living in Uzbekistan as a traveler
Here is what we spend per person for 2 days in Uzbekistan:
Costs of transportation: $37 – $19 per day
This includes taxis and train tickets from Tashkent to Samarkand and return.
This is WITHOUT our flight tickets to Uzbekistan from Malaysia – for those we paid: $187 per person.
Costs of accommodation: $54 – $27 per day
We stayed in a hotel in Tashkent.
Costs of food: $11 – $5 per day
We had breakfast included at the hotel and bought some food and snacks besides that.
Bonus tip: What to eat/food to try:
If you want to try a traditional Uzbek dish you can try Plov (Pilaf/Palov) – It’s included in the UNESCO Intangible Culture Heritage List and is a dish made of rice and meat.
Unfortunately we didn’t manage to try it in Uzbekistan. When we ordered it, it was sold out. It is mostly eaten at lunch, so we properly just ordered it a bit too late in the afternoon.
Costs of experiences: $12 – $6 per day
This includes entrance fees four different places in Samarkand.
Here is a list of 4 architectural masterpieces and what we paid per person for the entrance:
- Shah-I-Zinda: $3,2
- Bibi-Khanym Mosque: $2,4
- Registan Square: $4,0
- Gur-e Amir: $2,4
Other costs: Less than $1 total and per day
Primarily paid toilets.
Total of cost living in Uzbekistan: $114 – $57 per day
The cost of living in Uzbekistan seems very affordable compared to many of the other countries we have visited.
Uzbekistan was a quick stop on our way to Kyrgyzstan. We spend a day in Samarkand. It’s a very beautiful place with impressive architecture.
Uzbekistan is definitely worth a stop if you’re traveling in Central Asia and love architecture and history.
