Apps for Iceland

Last updated: 24.10.23

If Iceland is your next adventure you’re at the right place! In this blog post you will find 4 apps that are good to know when you visit Iceland.

One app to provide you information about the northern lights, one app with the best weather forecast, one app for safety and one app for parking and campsite booking.

Apps for Iceland

The 4 apps are My Aurora Forecast & Alerts, Vedur, Safetravel Iceland and Parka.

1. My Aurora Forecast & Alerts:

This is the best app to check the possibility of northern lights. The app shows you how likely you are to see the northern lights at your location – if seeing the northern light is on your bucket list this app is a valuable tool to make that dream come true.

2. Vedur:

The weather in Iceland changes a lot. Your best chance to get an idea is with the app Vedur. This is the go to weather forecast app in Iceland.

Knowing the temperature and wind is critical to wear the right clothes when you explore the nature in Iceland (do not only look at the temperature – The chill factor might surprise you).

Remember the chill factor might be pretty cold

3. Safetravel Iceland:

The weather will be unpredictable and tough in Iceland. Therefore the road conditions might change fast. It’s a good idea to download the app Safetravel Iceland if you’re driving in the country. The app will provide you with weather warnings and alerts.
The app can also be used for hiking.

4. Parka:

The Parka app provides an easy solution to pay for your parking online. It’s also possible to use the app to search for campsites.

General travel apps:

It’s always great with an app or GPS to help with directions when driving in a new country

Furthermore I always recommend apps like Google Maps and Google Translate when you travel around. Google Maps is great to navigate around and find restaurants with good reviews.

Google translate is a “must have” to translate when you’re in a country where you don’t understand the native language. It’s super easy to use, fro example you can take a picture of a menu card and it will translate it for you.

Booking.com is also nice to have if you didn’t book all your stays before your trip.

Enjoy your tour to Iceland!
