Guide to visit Thailand
Last updated: 15.09.23
Welcome to this tropical paradise called Thailand. After 1 month of adventures in Thailand I want to share some tips with you. It was my second time in this beautiful country and definitely not the last time!
Thailand is a tropical paradise with flavorful dishes, dreamy beaches, palm trees, big parties, cultural experiences, fairytale islands, wild adventures and so much more – Thailand has so much to offer, it’s very tourist friendly and the people are so kind.
To make it even easier for you to plan your visit I have collected “good things to know when you visit Thailand” in this general guide to visit the country. Here you will find inspiration about the weather, food, transportation and more. Furthermore I will share my personal ups and downs in the country in this general guide.
Guide to visit Thailand
Thailand is a popular destination for both backpackers and families. It is understandable why this country attracts so many different people – It has so much to offer, both cultural, nature wise, their culinary scene, the party side and of course the relaxed and tropical vibe you find many places.
Besides that the country is “easy” to travel around in. The local people are sweet and very used to deal with tourists.
Here is a guide with good things to know before visiting:
Language:
Their national language is Thai. As a tourist it’s easy to communicate in English.
Religion:
Most people in Thailand are Buddhist and you will find many beautiful temples in this country.
Currency:
Their currency is called Thai Baht – 100 Thai Baht is equivalent to $2,88
Weather:
Thailand has tropical climate weather – Therefore the weather can be very hot and humid. The weather in Thailand is defined by 3 seasons: hot, cool and wet season.
The hot season: March-June
The cool season: November-February
The wet (monsoon) season: July-October
Food:
Thai food is spicy!! If you like me has been more used to western food without much chili DON’T ask for spicy food – their level of spicy is so different!
Transportation:
It’s easy to get around Thailand by taxi, tuk tuk, bus and boat.
“A good to know app”:
When you travel in Thailand it’s a good idea to have the app “Grab”. You can use it for ordering transportation and food delivery.
Thai New Year:
The Thai New Year is called Songkran and is celebrated in April. During the celebration a big water fight festival takes place on the streets. It’s also know as the biggest water fight in the world.
We did it in Bangkok and had so much fun!!
Ups and downs in Thailand:
Here is my honest opinion about my time in Thailand after spending one month there from April to May. In that time I visited Bangkok, Hua Hin, Koh Phangan and Krabi.
UPS:
– The cheap prices – We lived very comfortably
– Extra luxury like massages
– Traveling 10 days with our friends
– Celebrating Thai New Year Songkran
– Delicious food
– So easy to get around
– Sunny
– Island life on Koh Phangan
– Meeting other full time travelers
– Visiting Angthong National Marine Park
– The nature (crystal clear water, paradise beaches, palm trees and so on)
DOWNS:
– We both got sick – I was sick for an entire week
– The heat and humidity was so high – We were constantly sweating
Is Thailand worth visiting?
100 % – Thailand is so affordable and a true paradise.
As a European full time traveler it’s easy to experience more luxury compared to Europe for the same amount of money.
Would I visit Thailand again?
I have no doubts I would love to visit Thailand again. It would then be my third time in this beautiful country.
If you consider visiting Thailand, I highly recommend you to do so! I hope this mini guide clarified some of the good things to know about Thailand, if you have questions, you’re always welcome to write them here (under the blog post) or directly to my instagram profile @dailytravelmoment.
